Note the rough, bumpy bone surface of this "lazy-S" shaped bone. Examine the blunted appearence of one end (A) compared to the relatively borader, flatter end (E).
The rough and bumpy surface tells you that this is the inferior view of this bone. To determine the side of the body this bone is from, "pretend" you are observing the superior view; then, note that feature A, faces medially and, moving laterally from A to E, the arc curves anteriorly to the midpoint of this bone before a slight posterior arc curves to feature E. Because you were "pretending" to examine this bone from the superior view, the actual side is the opposite of the answer you arrived at by pretending. Put another way, think "oh, gee, if this was the superior view it would be a "__" (side), but since it's upside down, it has to be a "__" (opposite side).
